BLURB
In horror movies, the final girl is the one who’s left standing when the credits roll. The one who fought back, defeated the killer, and avenged her friends. The one who emerges bloodied but victorious. But after the sirens fade and the audience moves on, what happens to her?Lynnette Tarkington is a real-life final girl who survived a massacre twenty-two years ago, and it has defined every day of her life since. And she’s not alone. For more than a decade she’s been meeting with five other actual final girls and their therapist in a support group for those who survived the unthinkable, putting their lives back together, piece by piece. That is until one of the women misses a meeting and Lynnette’s worst fears are realized–someone knows about the group and is determined to take their lives apart again, piece by piece. But the thing about these final girls is that they have each other now, and no matter how bad the odds, how dark the night, how sharp the knife, they will never, ever give up.
REVIEW
You know those girls we see at the end of horror or action movies? The one looking distraught, perhaps with a half bloodied face, or arms, struggling to walk? Who has fought hard after everything to defend herself and her friends? Yep, those girls.
Have you ever wondered what happens afterwards? How do they go about life knowing they could still be in danger? After going through hell on earth.
Men don’t have to pay attention the way we do. Men die because they make mistakes. Women? We die because weβre female
This book gives a perfect idea of that.
Lynette Tarkington is a final girl. After surviving a massacre twenty-two years ago in her house, her life has been a living hell. Paranoia has set into her mind leaving her desperate to hide. For more than 8 years now, she has been a member of a support group with other final girls and their therapist. There she found love, friendship and happiness. Until one of the girls misses a meeting and is found dead.
Lynette makes a conclusion that someone is out to get them, one by one.I’ve never read a book by Grady Hendrix before so reading this left me so amazed. The concept of this book is mind blowing. The back stories of each of the women was horrible but i love their reaction afterwards.
How they stood up for themselves and fought back. The attitude of Lynette towards everything is so justified – hiding in her house all the time, going out armed, always on the lookout and in preparation for an attack always. The relationship between the girls is sweet as well. They, always being there for one another. This book reminded me of the slasher movies I’ve watched before.
Some of the dialogues are hilarious and i enjoyed how it as a whole, questioned gender roles. Why should women always be the victims?
This is one of my best reads this year and I recommend to every horror fan out there!

The concept of this book sounds insanely good! I don’t tend to read horror/thrillers but this sounds so interesting. Great review!
