Lunch Box Wisdom takes a new approach to a familiar theme, the first day of school! Ali is excited and nervous for his first day of kindergarten. With the help of his trusty lunch box, where his mama places her words of wisdom, he overcomes his fears, chooses to be kind, and makes a new friend.

Whether it’s the first day of daycare, kindergarten, or grade 1 and beyond: Lunch Box Wisdom will be a wonderful staple and an encouraging book to share with your little learner.

Lunchbox Wisdom by Zaynab Al Yassiri was a fun read for me. The author dedicated the book to her son, with these kind words: “Remember to always try your best, believe in yourself and be kind. Love, Mama ❤.”

I don’t read chapter books so I was really curious about this. It tells the story of Ali who is nervous on his first day of school. His mom reassures him, telling him everything will be okay, just be himself, be kind and he might make new friends. She packs his lunchbox and off he goes to school.
During break, he sets out his lunch on the table. Just then, a note falls out. It wrote “Ali, I hope your first day of kindergarten is wonderful! Try your best and be kind. The funny thing about being kind is that the more you give out, the more you get back. I Love You – Mama ❤.”

He then notices another student who looks solemn. She had forgotten her lunchbox. Remembering the kind words of his mom, he offers to share his lunch with her. She becomes happy and promises to share hers tomorrow with him. By the end of the day, he had indeed made a new friend.
I love the themes incorporated in the book. How Ali’s mom showed him that love is the way forward, be kind, which he did and made someone happy, Be selfless, in his attitude of sharing his meal, through which he made a new friend. The interactive pictures were very thoughtful and kids would very much love it, making them more interested to read. Very easy to understand, I believe this is a must read for every child out there.
